Our Community

Cultivating a vibrant alumni community is essential to our mission — this dynamic, engaged network of individuals continue to advance social impact, justice, and sustainable development across Latin America and beyond.

Our alumni work in diverse fields, including international development, education, public health, law, environmental conservation, and social entrepreneurship. What unites them is a shared commitment to service, equity, and community-driven change.

Many alumni remain deeply involved with PiLA, giving back as:

  • Donors who help sustain future fellowship opportunities

  • Mentors guiding current fellows and prospective applicants

  • Volunteers supporting events, workshops, and outreach

  • Members of PiLA’s Fellowship Advisory Council (FAC), our alumni-led governing body that advises on programming and strategy

We welcome and encourage all PiLA alumni to stay connected and engaged with this lifelong network!

Alumni Association

We warmly invite all PiLA alumni to update their contact information to stay connected and receive updates, opportunities, and news from the PiLA Alumni Association.

Membership in the Alumni Association is free and open to all former PiLA Fellows, offering a meaningful way to remain engaged with the PiLA community — no matter where your career and life have taken you.

Benefits of Joining the Alumni Association Include:

  • Exclusive networking opportunities with fellow PiLA alumni across sectors and regions

  • Participation in PiLA’s career mentorship program — as a mentor or mentee

  • Opportunities to engage with current fellows through orientation sessions and special events

  • Invitations to PiLA receptions, panels, and alumni gatherings

  • Ongoing connection with the FAC and access to a vibrant network of changemakers

Join us in strengthening the PiLA community and supporting the next generation of fellows!

The Doer Mentality

Mentorship Program

The PiLA Alumni Mentorship Program is designed to provide guidance, support, and community to fellows as they navigate both their transition into their fellowship year and their career path beyond PiLA.

Each fellow is paired with two dedicated mentors:

  • Country Mentor – A PiLA alum who has lived or worked in the fellow’s host country, providing insights, advice, and support to help them adapt to life in Latin America and thrive in their new environment.

  • Professional Mentor – A PiLA alum working in a related field who helps fellows explore career paths, build professional networks, and prepare for their next steps after their fellowship.

By serving as a mentor, alumni have the opportunity to give back, stay engaged with the PiLA community, and directly impact the next generation of fellows.
